O3 – Breathe air to Your Relationships

We all have relationships. They can be husband-wife, parent-child, brother-sister, friends, neighbours, co-workers, peer-to-peer, supervisor-subordinate, employer-employee, teacher-student, coach-player, mentor-mentee, director-actor, those-in-the-pulpit and those-in-the-pew, and with the divine. As we wrap up 2021, here’s a tip to breathe air into our relationships in 2K22: in addition to O2, give your relationships O3.

What is O3? It’s One-On-One. Typically, we engage in one-to-many relationships. In the business workplace, meetings between supervisors with their subordinates have been around for quite some time. In the church, ministry leaders meet with their staff, and their staff in turn meet with their staff and volunteers. But how often do we have one-on-one’s with individual members on our team?

Two years ago, most meetings were face-to-face and on premise. In the office, managers convened meetings with their staff in-person and onsite. They also exercised MBWA, managing their reports by walking around and dropping into their physical workspaces. Today, meetings are still face-to-face but they have moved off premise; they have gone online yet in-person. In the hybrid phygital situation, one-on-one meetings need to happen more than ever. They need to be more effective and efficient. Fresh air needs to be injected into this intentional discipline.

Weekly 1 on 1 Meetings – the Most Important Use of a Manager’s Time

As mentioned above, a very important relationship is with our Creator. More important than the other relationships, we need to spend one-on-one quality time with the Triune God. During our Solitude with the Creator, we need to immerse in Scripture for guidance, maintain Silence to be still and reflect on the Word, lift up Supplication and be sensitive to His voice, and be filled with the Spirit for discernment.

Wishing you a WONGderful 2K22!
